The gang was allegedly involved in 20 such cases in Delhi and NCR.
According to police, the accused identified as Sameer(22), Sonu(25), Jafar(35), Usman(32) and Amir(21), were arrested on February 21.
Since November 2014, series of cases of car-jacking and robberies were reported in the city following which special staff of South District was asked to look into the cases.
"During investigation, a tip off was received that gang would be coming near Andolan Park, Savitri Nagar of Malviya Nagar following which a trap was laid and Sameer and Sonu were arrested," a senior police officer said.
About their modus operandi, police said, one of the gang members used to wear khaki pants and jacket posing as policeman.
He then signal the targeted vehicle to stop for checking. On the pretext of checking, he would ask the driver to show driving license and registration certificate, he added.
In the meantime, other gang member would overpower the victim at the gun point and shove the driver on the back seat. The gang would drive the car to an isolated place and rob the victim of cash and valuables, police said.
Cops have recovered two cars, eight robbed mobile phones, two laptops, a wrist watch and a country made pistol along with two live cartridges from the gang.
