An alleged gangster and his close associate wanted in a number of criminal incidents in the national capital, including a contract killing where a south Delhi-based businessman was killed in brought daylight on the behest of his rivals in West Asia, have been arrested.
Delhi Police Commissioner had declared a cash reward of Rs one lakh for cracking of this case.
The accused identified as Mohd Danish Jamal alias Sameer and his aide Deepak Sirohi alias Bunty were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday.
"We had got a tip off that Jamal, who is planning to execute a heinous crime, will be coming to meet an associate near the Hanuman temple, behind GB Road. It was also learnt that one Deepak, an associate of Danish, will be meeting a contact near Dilshad Garden Metro Station parking and thereafter, will come to join Danish," said DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
Acting on a tip off, traps were laid at both the locations. On Danish Jamal's arrival, he was asked to surrender but instead, the gangster whipped out his pistol and pointed it towards the police party. However after a brief scuffle, the police party managed to overpower him.
Meanwhile, the second team, around the same time, spotted Deepak Sirohi and he too was nabbed. On a cursory search, a revolver of 0.32 mm bore and four live cartridges were found in his possession.
"Deepak along with Ible Hassan and Danish and others executed a contract killing in which a prominent manpower agent of South Delhi, identified as Farrukh Khan was killed at the behest of his business rival settled in a West Asian country on September 22 last year," said Yadav.
A murder case was registered in this regard at New Friends Colony Police Station. Since all efforts of local police could not yield any clue which could lead to the working out of this case, a reward of Rs one lakh was declared by the Commissioner of Police for cracking the same.
