"The main objective of the museum is to highlight the technological progress from the birth of the car, the various innovations and inventions, which happened over a period of time and the people behind it," G Gopal, Managing Trusteee, G D Naidu Charities, the owners of the museum, told reporters here today.
The museum has collection of vintage cars (pre 1939), showing the evolution of the automobile, with the first ever automobile made in world 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen and several pre-war classics and unique vintage cars, totalling about 70, he said.
The cars on display were Volkswagen Beetle, Morris Mini, Morris Cowley, Austin 7, Wolseley 8, Rolls Royce from British, BMW Isetta, BMW 700, Clas Goggomobile, Benz 1705, Porsche Boxer from German section, Subaru Rex, Mazda Rx8 and Toyota from Japanese cars section.
French cars section, include Citroen XM, Peugot 203, 504 and 605, while American sections has Dodge Victory Six, Oldsmobile Dynamic 60, Cadillac Limousine and Hispano Suiza h6B from Spanish car collections, he said.
Though most cars were owned by the Trust, many special cars were the benevolent donation of vintage car enthusiasts of Coimbatore, who felt that they must share their pricely possession with the general public, Gopal added.
