The Higher Education Department of Delhi government has directed the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University not to provide affiliations to new institutions in this academic session (2014-15).
Further, new courses shall not be added in the institutions affiliated to IP University and even the intake capacity will not be revised.
This order was issued during the consideration of policy for grant of NOC to private institutions affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University in the current academic session.
The orders were issued on the directions of Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.
There are 106 educational institutions affiliated with the GGSIP University. Of these, 86 are private educational institutions.
According to the sources, the move comes in the wake of the department receiving large number of complaints regarding All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines violations.
Some colleges do not have trained teachers and proper space and infrastructure for certain courses. Some do not have required faculty, computers and equipment.
The policy guidelines were valid for the academic year 2013-14 and the University had appointed an expert committee to streamline the affiliation process. The committee has already submitted its report.
