The mishap took place as the 11,000 volt electric wire snapped and fell on four people, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harimohan Shukla said, adding a girl, identified as Asha Kumari (16) got electrocuted, while three others sustained burn injuries.
The incident took place at a time when the people were gathered on the spot to purchase fruits and other items for Chhath festival, he said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and the injured admitted to a government hospital, Shukla said.
Meanwhile, the local people vented ire at the electricity department for poor maintenance of the electric lines and soon the crowd went berserk and pelted stones on the shop before setting them on fire, the DSP said.
Senior officials, including the District Magistrate Abhijit Sinha and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganesh Kumar rushed to the spot and tried to pacified the agitators.
