14-year-old Romea Oraon was sleeping alone inside her hut when the pachyderm entered it, police said, adding, the animal lifted the girl using its trunk and then flung her to death.
Other members of the family were asleep in the nearby huts when the incident took place, they said.
Police suspected that country liquor was kept in the hut whose smell lured the animal from nearby forest.
Elephants are known to be fond of country liquor, they added.
