Police said that the 16-year-old girl, studying in the government higher secondary school at Ethapur,was in love with her classmate and had reportedly threatened him she would take the extreme step if he did not reciprocate her feelings.
The headmaster and class teachers then asked her to bring her parents and take the transfer certificate and leave. Following this she went home and consumed poison.
She was rushed to a hospital, where her condition is reported to be serious.
