Global economic gloom affects Thrissur Pooram fest

Arrival of foreign tourists to witness pooram to be held tomorrow was very poor compared to previous years, they said.

"So far only 30 foreign nationals have registered their names to witness the pooram festivals. The number of foreign tourists registered last year was more than 100, the sources said.

There was a sharp decline in the number of foreign nationals witnessing the pooram festivals since 2009 following the impact of the global economic downtown.

While 150 foreign nationals registered under the council for the 2009 pooram festivals, it was reduced to only 100 last year, they said.
