"It is hereby resolved that Atanasio Monserratte be expelled from the party forthwith and be debarred from re- entering the party under any circumstances," reads the resolution adopted by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee here yesterday.
According to GPCC resolution, Monserratte had openly told AICC Secretary Chella Kumar that he would work against the Congress candidate Surendra Furtado, who lost the election to BJP nominee Siddharth Kuncolienkar.
While reading out the resolution here today, Congress Goa spokesman Sunil Kawathankar said that Monserratte, who represents St Cruz constituency, had made a statement against the Congress functionaries.
The Panaji bypoll was necessitated after the resignation of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who took over as the Defence Minister in the Narendra Modi government.
