The Goa government has dissolved a committee set up to issue No-objection certificates to Overseas Indian Citizens (OIC) intending to buy property in the state under Foreign Exchange Management Authority (FEMA) provisions.
The state Law and Judiciary department took the decision to withdraw the circular after the Aam Admi Party (AAP) submitted a memorandum, against the committee, to minister Francis DSouza.
AAP had submitted a memorandum on April 24 this year stating that the committee had hardly met and had left behind several hundred files pertaining to NOCs.
The committee was dissolved on May 17 by an order signed by under secretary Diwan Rane.
The order, however, stated that civil registrars cum sub registrars would scrutinise documents for the purpose from now onwards.
The AAPs Goa convener Elvis Gomes, who had taken up the issue, today thanked DSouza and visited the minister at his office in Mapusa town.
Gomes said that his party had raised the issue several times as the FEMA circular was causing hardship to people.
