The census will be conducted in Goa between July-October 2013 and around four lakh households would be enumerated for economic activity and close to one lakh establishments would be recorded, Economic Census Deputy Director General Sunil Jain told a press conference here today.
"There are some differences between the census held in the year 2007 and this time around. For the first time, we will be enumerating the handicraft establishments," he said.
Jain also said there would be a separate count of transgenders during the census, which would also seek to know how many establishments are financed by self help groups.
"The last census had 3.70 lakh households and 77,000 establishments being recorded. This time we will have around four lakh households and one lakh establishments," said Vijay Saxena, Joint Director, Directorate of Planning and Statistics, Government of Goa.
The census will cover all kind of economic activities -- organised, unorganised, registered with government or not registered.
Jain said pan-India figures indicate that of the total 4.2 crore establishments, only six lakhs were in the organised or registered sector.
The Goa figures also indicated similar trend.
Anand Sherkhande, Joint Secretary (Finance), said only 22,000 establishments are covered under Value Added Tax collection in the state as against 77,000 establishments reported during last economic census.
