"A final decision on the sports city planned at Dhargal would be taken soon," Tawadkar told the state Legislative Assembly adding that the facilities proposed at Dhargal are subject to change, he added.

He said the state government will now prepare a master plan for the sports city.

In its earlier tenure as opposition, the BJP had objected to the sports city complex which is being created at the cost of a huge tree cover in Dhargal village, located alongside the national highway.

"Cutting of trees will depend solely on the actual master plan to be prepared by a consultant," the minister said, responding to a question by Congress legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.

Goa government acquired land in six locations to construct the sports city complex which is likely to host the National Games 2014.

Tawadkar said land has been acquired at Dhargal, Pernem, Mandrem, Fatorda, Shiroda and Colvale villages where infrastructure for the sports city is planned to be created.

Mandrem, another village in Pernem, will house sports village where the residential facility for the participating sportsmen would be created.

A handball indoor stadium will be set up at Fatorda while volleyball cum body building indoor stadium will be made in Shiroda.

Colvale village will have water sports facilities including rowing, canoeing, kayaking and others, he told the Assembly.
