Seeking early announcement of special financial package from the Centre for flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today said there was need to speed up rebuilding measures before onset of winter.
"We reiterate our demand of early announcement of special financial package by the central government covering all aspects of relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction," Azad said, fanked by State Tourism Minister G A Mir, AICC General Secretary Ambika Soni and PCC chief Saif-ud-din Soz.
Azad reached out to the flood affected people in villages and mountainous belts of Bijbehara, Anantnag, Homeshalibug, Dooru and Kokernag constituency of South Kashmir to have a first hand assessment of the damage caused by incessant rains and ravaging floods.
"The scale and magnitude of this disaster is so humongous that the state government with its meagre resources will not be able to cope with it," Azad said.
"There is no point in delaying the sanctioning of a special package, and I would urge the Central Government to fast-track the matter for taking up the rebuilding measures before the onset of winter," he said.
Azad, who visited Battengo, Shool, Shamsipora, Bus Stand Anantnag, Achhabal, Bangidar, Mir Dhantar, Dayalgam, Larkipora, Mandpora, Hiller, Shergund, Vider, heard the woes of the people.
