The Goa unit Congress chief's decision to deliberate upon an alliance with "like-minded" parties for the forthcoming Assembly elections by October, was akin to "going solo" which would be politically "suicidal", former Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said today.
Without taking any name, Rane alleged that some Congress leaders wanted to "finish" the party for their "selfish interests".
"Congress party decision to go alone in the 2017 (Goa Assembly polls) @conspiracy@destroy the Congress, alliance is must otherwise it's suicidal," Rane said in a tweet.
After meeting the office-bearers of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee yesterday, its chief Luizinho Faleiro had said that the party will take a call on forging any pre-poll tie up by September 30.
"The Congress in Goa must learn from mistakes in other states. Few leaders for their selfish interest want(s) to finish the party," Rane, son of the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane, tweeted.
"A thorough survey needs to be done before any decision is taken. This is in the best interest of the Congress party. There is a clear divide between the Congress Legislature Party and the Congress party (over the issue of alliance). Legislators feel there should be a grand alliance whereas the party level feels there should not be any alliance," he tweeted.
Rane also sought intervention of the Congress high-command to take an appropriate decision at the earliest.
