Customs sleuths today seized gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore from a person in Manipur's Imphal East district, an official said.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs, R K Darendrajit said the man was arrested from Lamlong area in Imphal East district by the personnel of Custom's anti-smuggling unit and gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore were seized from his possession.
Darendrajit said that Manipur despite its small size has become an important part of the route through which the yellow metal is smuggled from Myanmar and then transported to other parts of the country.
In March this year 97 gold bars worth an estimated Rs 4.8 crore were seized from a vehicle by Assam Rifles in the hill district of Tengnoupal bordering Myanmar.
