Silver followed suit and recaptured the Rs 39,000-mark due to increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.
Standard gold (99.5 per cent purity) advanced by Rs 15 to close at Rs 30,075 per 10 grams from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 30,060.
Pure gold (99.9 per cent purity) also moved up by the same amount to close at Rs 30,225 per 10 grams compared to Rs 30,210 earlier.
Overseas, gold prices reversed early gains to trade slightly lower as the US dollar recovered from a three-year low against a basket of currencies.
Spot gold was down 0.3 per cent at USD 1,334.86 an ounce at early trade.
Among other precious metals, spot silver fell 0.3 per cent to USD 17.15 per ounce.
