The CID today claimed to have got some specific leads from the two persons arrested in connection with the gang rape of a 71-year-old nun in Nadia district and was planning to question the duo together to speed up the probe.
"We have interrogated both and it was understood that Gopal is a linkman in this case. Salim has already confessed to his involvement in the crime. We have also got specific leads from him which will help us reach the rest of the accused in near future," a top CID officer told PTI.
The CID yesterday arrested Mohammed Salim Sheikh alias Salim from Mumbai and another Gopal Sarkar from Habra in North 24-Parganas district in West Bengal in the connection with the gang rape of a 71-year-old nun in a convent school in Ranaghat in Nadia district 12 days ago.
"We have got some vital information from Gopal as well which we will not be able to divulge for the sake of our investigation," the officer said.
Sources said that the CID was planning to interrogate the duo together to speed up the probe into the two-week-old incident.
"We are also trying to re-construct the incident at the Jesus and Mary Convent School in Ranaghat and we hope to unearth more information during that," they said.
Both Sarkar and Salim has been remanded to 14 days of CID custody.
