A top official of Yanam administration told PTI today that a central kitchen had been opened to get ready food packets and at a time five thousand persons could be distributed packets although as of now there was not much demand as the residents had preferred to stay in their concrete structures.
Yanam has emerged as a virtually 'no hut' region with the administration implementing the scheme to convert through housing subsidy all huts into concrete structures there. School premises were also earmarked as shelters for accomodating the people.
Flying squads were also operating in the region where control rooms were also in place since the last few days, the official said.
Mobile medical teams were doing the rounds in vulnerable areas. With the precautionary power shutdown in Vishakapatnam a few of the villages in Yanam went without power supply.
