Govt asked to consider reservation for ST for Mayor, Dy Mayor

The Karnataka High Court today directed the government to consider reservation for ST category for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city civic body.
Justice A S Bopanna, while hearing the petition filed by two BBMP corporators, Indira and Lokesh V Naik, observed that so far the BBMP had never given reservation for the ST category for the two posts which is a violation of the Constitution.
The court then directed the government to consider the ST reservation for the posts.
