Punjab government today claimed the state has 85 per cent water supply coverage as compared to national average of 54.7 per cent.
The data pertaining to water supply in litres per capita daily (LPCD) revealed that Punjab was providing 200-260 LPCD as compared to the national average of 89.9 LPCD, an official spokesman said while quoting World Bank report-2014.
Punjab was providing 10-12 hours of water supply daily to its urban residents as compared to the national average of 4.3 hours, he said.
The figures of sewerage coverage in the cities reveal that Punjab was providing 65 per cent covered sewerage facility to its resident whereas the figure at national level was 50.49 per cent, the spokesman said.
Punjab has now outnumbered the entire country in the fields of water supply coverage, water supply in litres per capita daily, hours of water daily, sewerage coverage and STP capacity as per a World Bank report, he said in a release.
The Secretary, Local Government, Punjab Ashok Gupta said the state government has made all efforts to ensure that basic civic amenities were provided to the people in every nook and corner of the state.
He said that the government was also making efforts to ensure that 100 per cent target was achieved in water supply coverage, water supply in litres per capita daily, hours of water daily, sewerage coverage and STP capacity.
"We are leaving no stone unturned for ensuring the urban populace gets all the ultra modern facilities at their disposals," Gupta said.
