"According to rules, the eligible age for appointment of director is below 60 years, and when Dr Mahto was below 60 he was appointed to the post. But he did not inform the health department after completing the age limit," an official release quoting Jharkhand Principal secretary (Health) B K Tripathy said here.
"The department handed over the charge to another person (Dr S K Choudhary) after learning about it," he added.
Tripathy said the department was committed to working in an organised way with transparency and adhering to rules drawn for the RIMS.
When contacted, Dr Mahto declined to speak.
