Govt de-affiliates 180 ITIs in last 3 yrs on complaints

Government has de-affiliated 180 industrial training institutes in the last three years acting on the complaints and recommendations of respective states, Parliament was informed today.
"Yes, it is a fact that more private industrial training institutes (ITIs) as compared to the government have been set up during the last three years and the current year.
"During the last 3 years, a total of 180 ITIs have been de-affiliated on the basis of complaints and recommendation of respective states," Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The number of private ITIs set up was during 2013 was 402, 1,213 in 2014 and 1,124 in 2015. Process for current year is likely to be finished by August 28.
At present, as per data available, total number of 12,341 ITIs (Government 2,048 and private 10,293) are admitting trainees in the affiliated trade/units of National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the country.
The minister also said that DGT, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has taken some initiatives to monitor the quality and performance of ITIs.
These include quality improvement tool ISO 29990, participation of state government representatives in the inspection, limit on minimum trades and maximum units for new institutes, initiative for good ambiance of ITIs, information technology lab for all ITIs, craftsmen instructors training certificate made mandatory for ITI instructors and accreditation process of ITIs through online web portal.
