Govt functions cancelled to mourn death of former Speaker

: All government functions scheduled for today were cancelled while conduct of an international yoga festival was postponed to a later date as a mark of respect to former Speaker V M C Sivakumar, who was hacked to death in Karaikal yesterday.
The 23rd annual international yoga festival would now be held tomorrow, official sources said.
They said all preparations were in place to hold the International Yoga festival from today. However as the decision to observe mourning was taken around noon, it was decided to hold the festival tomorrow.
Delegates and yoga practitioners, as also students who had gone to the venue for the event were left disappointed as there was no notice about postponement of the festival.
