Govt has ordered probe into scholarship fees scam: Kamble

Maharashtra government has ordered enquiry by the CBI and the ACB into the Rs 4,000 crore scam involving siphoning off funds meant for scholarship fees of backward class students allegedly by education barons.
The backward class students, who have been deprived of the scholarship fees, will get justice, Minister of State for Social Justice Dilip Kamble said in the state Legislative Assembly during Question Hour today.
The colleges will be asked not to recover fees from the beneficiary students till the time scholarship funds are disbursed, he said.
Education barons had allegedly siphoned off funds to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already ordered an inquiry into the matter, Kamble said.

The creamy layer limit has been increased from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs six lakh, he added.
To another question about minimum support price (MSP) to cotton growers, Chief Minister Fadnavis said the current rate of cotton per quintal is Rs 4,800 and the Cotton Corporation of India had procured it at the price of Rs 4,150 per quintal.
"I have requested the Union Textile Minister to grant the difference money to the farmers and he is positive about it," he added.
