The government is considering framing a comprehensive policy for the food sector that would help enhance farmers' income and provide processed food products to consumers at affordable rates.
Addressing a conference of the All India Food Processors Association, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal stressed on the need to further strengthen the linkage of the farms with the market and industry.
"I think there should be a one comprehensive food policy, which encompasses policies for agriculture, distribution of food and food processing, that is the need of the hour and we are thinking on those lines," Badal said.
She emphasised upon the need to make agriculture a more profitable profession so that farmers are able to raise their income levels.
Badal said the government plans to establish a task force to prepare a vision for the food processing sector by 2020.
"So it is an ongoing process, we want to create such environment where farmers income level rises, promotes processing and at the same time, food products for consumers are available at affordable prices," she said.
Food is personal
The Frying Pan app is personalized for each user; using
its proprietary recommendation engine The Frying Pan deconstructs a user's palette to give more meaningful recommendations. The recommendation engine not only uses preferences like tastes, cuisines, disliked ingredients, etc., but also uses parameters like the weather, time of the day and location of the user. In addition, a user can choose to see recommendations based on his or her dietary preferences such as vegetarian, non-vegetarian, vegan etc. This first-of-its-kind approach to understand food enables the app to provide relevant and personalized answer to the eternal question, 'What do I Eat Today?'
Story so far With around 20,000 app downloads within the launch period of fifty days, The Frying Pan has received fabulous response from their users. The Frying Pan has very high user engagement and user interactions within the app.
"The strong user downloads and app usage metrics validate our belief in the unique value proposition that a personalized food recommendations app can disrupt the current cluttered food app space," said Priyanka Jain, one of the three co-founders.
What the future holds
The Frying Pan aims to complete the experience by not just
providing content but helping consumers get the final product. Integrations that deliver different interactions of food are next in line - grocery delivery, ready-to-eat food delivery, recipe boxes and more. The aim is to be India's No.1 food app for all eat-at-home requirements.
