Govt official gets 4 years jail in bribery case

A special court has awarded four years jail term to a government official for taking a bribe of Rs 12,000 in 2014.
Special judge S K Choube yesterday awarded the sentence to Rudrasingh Arya who was posted as Deputy Registrar of Registration and Stamps Department at Lakhnadoun town in the district when the incident of bribery took place.
Arya had taken Rs 12,000 bribe from a person for registering his property, District Prosecution Officer Deepa Marskole said.
Besides the jail term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against the official.
The court also directed Lokayukta to return to the complainant Rs 12,000, which he had paid as bribe, the officer added.
