Maharashtra government was "positive" about the demand of reservations for Maratha community, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today said in the Legislative Council.
"The state government is positive on providing reservations for Maratha community. Providing reservations for the Maratha community will not affect the quotas of other communities," Pawar said, replying to a query by Leader of Opposition Vinod Tawde (BJP).
Tawde, through a point of order, brought it to notice that thousands of people from the community -- which is politically dominant in the state -- had taken out a rally at Azad Maidan here on the issue recently.
Pawar, himself a Maratha, said government had already set up a committee, headed by Industries Minister Narayan Rane, to examine the demand. "The decision would be taken after its report comes," he said.
