The government has sought applications for the posts of two members at the fair trade regulator CCI to strengthen its human resource capabilities.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, presently has a chairman and four members, while there are vacancies for two members.
In April, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved "rightsizing" CCI in pursuance of the 'Minimum Government - Maximum Governance'.
In a public notice, the fair trade regulator said applications are invited from Indian nationals for two posts of member in CCI.
The applications need to be submitted by August 2.
"The selected candidate will be required to serve at the headquarters of the Competition Commission of India. The location of the CCI is to be in Delhi/ NCR," it added.
The members would be paid a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 4 lakh but would not be entitled to house and car. They would be appointed for a period of five years or till they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
The CCI has gained importance in recent years with all major deals requiring its approval, while it has also been keeping a close vigil for any attempts at cartelisation or other unfair trade practices in various sectors, including real estate, automotive, coal, aviation and banking.
Among major deals, Walmart's mega-billion dollar acquisition of Flipkart is currently awaiting the CCI approval.
The Commission was established in 2003 to replace the erstwhile Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission.
The fair trade regulator draws its power from the Competition Act, 2002, and has been empowered to check anti-competitive behaviour and regulate mergers and acquisitions.
