Puducherry government today said it has sought an allocation of Rs 500 crore from the Centre to implement the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission in the Union Territory.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said his government had agreed to implement the panel's recommendations and the funds needed for payment of revised pay structure for government staff would be around Rs 500 crore.
"We have approached the Centre for the allocation," he told reporters here after attending a meeting to review the fiscal position of Puducherry.
He also said the government will embark upon a drive to realise taxes due from diesel and petrol dealers, totalling Rs 100 crore.
The drive would also help the state government collect power tariff amounting to Rs 30 crore due from industrial units over a period of time, he added.
