BJP Puducherry unit general secretary V.Saminathan said in a release here that the government was incurring hefty expenditure by sanctioning the assistance to all students without taking into consideration the income of the parents.
"If the assistance is available only to those belonging to poor families, the government could save expenditure and the money so saved could be used for purchase of laptops to be handed free of cost to students in higher educational institutions," he said.
