Patel was in city to promote his his upcoming directorial venture 'Canvas' along with the producers.
The noted screenplay writer said Gujarat government should take steps to make it mandatory to run regional films in theatres and multiplexes, like on the lines of Maharashtra government.
"We want the state government to promise to help promote Gujarati films in the state. And want them to amend outdated policies and help revive audiences' interest in regional cinema," Patel told PTI.
Speaking on his film, he said the story revolves around seven people who are a bunch of different traits and characters.
"The film has an unique and never-seen-before story telling method till date in Gujarati cinema. It is very hard to find such a subject, story and message," claimed Patel.
'Canvas' features actors Chirag Modi, Shraddhanshu Trivedi, Rakesh Pujara and Pooja Nayak in lead roles and will hits screens on February 27.
