: Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers' Association today requested the State government to appoint a retired or sitting judge of Madras High Court as Chairperson of Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission in accordance with the directive of the Supreme Court.
Since the process of the appointment of a chairperson has been initiated by the government, TECA would like to point out the view of Supreme Court, with special reference to the appointment, expressed in a recent case disposed of on Apr 4, D Balasundaram, President, TECA, claimed in a statement here.
The ruling requires the appointment of a sitting or retired judge of Madras High Court, in consultation with Chief Justice of High Court, as chairperson to TNERC, he said.
Hence it would be appropriate for the State Government to call for nominations for consideration of the selection committee only from the retired or sitting judge, he added.
