Govt to work for eco-restoration of Brahma Sarovar: Khattar

The Haryana government has decided to implement a project for eco-restoration of the sacred Brahma Sarovar at Thana village in Kurukshetra district.
"With a view to protect and conserve the ecological biodiversity of the area surrounding Brahma Sarovar in village Thana and to further develop the area as a tourist destination, the government has decided to implement the project," Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said here today.
Under the project, restoration activities would be carried out in about 100 acre of area comprising the pond and its surroundings, Khattar said.
Khattar laid the foundation stone of 'Swarna Jayanti Brahma Sarovar Community Reserve' at Thana village and also released three turtles of different species into the pond.

Highlighting the importance of community participation in the project, the chief minister said urged the people to conserve the Brahma Sarovar, which is revered as a sacred site.
Earlier at another event today, Khattar, after laying the foundation stones of two 33 KV sub-stations in Karnal, said the state government is spending rupees in crore on strengthening and increasing the capacity of the electric power infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the State.
These sub-stations would be constructed at a cost of about Rs eight crore, he said.
New sub-stations are being established and capacity of existing sub-stations is being increased, he added.
