Group clash leaves houses ransacked, 1 held

One person was arrested today for his alleged involvement in ransacking houses and injuring a youth during a clash in posh Palm Avenue area in southern part of the city, police said.
Two rival gangs clashed in the area late last night during which a youth was assaulted and a few houses were ransacked, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"Besides, bikes were set on fire and vehicles were damaged. A police team was posted in the area last night. The leader of one of the gangs was arrested this evening," he said.
The groups fought to gain control over real estate business in and around the area, he said.

This morning, women of the locality took out rallies protesting against the incident and the "growing nexus" of promoters and a section of the administration.
