Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan today termed the GST launch as one of the "landmark" moments in the post-independence era of the country that would benefit everyone including traders and common man.
He was speaking at a function organised by the Institute of Chartered Accounts, Thiruvananthapuram branch to mark the roll out of GST by the NDA government.
"It is one of the revolutionary things to happen and everybody will understand this as it is going to benefit all including traders and poor people," Vardhan said.
The Union Minister also said that they would convey to concerned people the apprehensions voiced by traders and others on the implementation of GST.
With regard to the achievements of the NDA government, he claimed that the country has now been rated as the fastest growing economy in the world.
Vardhan also said that all political parties and state governments extended co-operation for the implemention of GST in the country.
He said all parties contributed towards arriving at a consensus on GST at one level.
"Honestly, I fail to understand how you can refuse to participate in the fruits of that consensus," Vardhan said without referring to boycott of the launch event in the parliament by Opposition parties.
He also said the country has to be thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for GST as it happened because of his persuasion.
Union Minister for Statistics and Programme implementation, Sadananda Gowda also spoke on the occasion.
