GST to provide fillip to Indian economy, says Gurumurthy

RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy today said the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, to be unveiled on July 1, will provide a fillip to the economy in future though there may be initial problems after its rollout.
"People might face problem in the beginning of the GST launch but manufacturers and businessmen will start experiencing its positive side in a year or two," Gurumurthy told reporters here.
"The GST will provide a push to the Indian economy for sure," he said.
"Right now different taxes are levied on goods that vary from state to state. The GST will bring in uniformity," said Gurumurthy, who is a chartered accountant.

He also backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move of demonetising high-value currencies.
