Gujarat Congress today took out a rally here on the issue of price rise of essential commodities and accused the BJP government at the Centre as well as in the state of inaction to address the issue.
The rally started from Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan near Ellis Bridge and ended at Sardarbaug area near Nehrubridge in the city.
All the key leaders of the opposition party and over 5,000 party workers and citizens joined the rally, a party release claimed.
While addressing the party workers, Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki alleged that inflation has touched a new high in BJP-led government due to "rampant corruption and protection to hoarders and middlemen".
"Both the BJP-led governments at the Centre and the state are not concerned about the plight of the common man. People are under the burden of ever increasing price rise of all essential items. To wake up this government, Congress will organise such programmes in the coming days too," Solanki said.
During his address, Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela alleged that BJP leaders are neck-deep in corruption.
"BJP came to power at the Centre by making false claims of bringing 'acche din' (good days). BJP is in power here since the last 20 years. Yet, they did nothing to reduce the prices of essential items. I am sure people will give a fitting reply to BJP in the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections," Vaghela said.
