With the addition of 11 new units, Gujarat will have a total of 46 units in the defence modules including Navy, Army and Air Force.
"We will be able to start new NCC units in Gujarat in Palanpur, Amreli, Patan and Dahod districts as the Army units, while the NCC Naval units would be started in Bhuj, Jamnagar, Gandhidham, Porbanadar, Veraval, Navsari and Bhavnagar," said Major General Dilawar Singh, the Additional Director General, NCC, Gujarat.
Responding to a query, Singh said, "Seven units have already been sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence which will start functioning from the next year (while) others are in the pipeline."
Singh said that the new units will be started considering the accelerated activities undertaken in Gujarat in the last two years.
"The new NCC units will generate more than 20,000 vacancies. The Army NCC units will consist of 3500 cadets and the Navy unit 1200 cadets," he said.
He said that NCC Gujarat had already launched a 'cleanliness drive' in Ahmedabad and Vadodara last year and will be observing the same from November 14 to 19 this year.
