Gujarat Govt earmarks Rs 1,200 crore to meet scarcity

In view of last year's deficient monsoon in Gujarat, the Revenue Department has set aside Rs 1,201 crore to meet water scarcity in 2013-14, the State Assembly was informed today.
"Keeping in mind last year's insufficient rainfall, we have allocated Rs 1,210 crore to meet scarcity-like situation in Saurashtra, Kutch and North Gujarat regions," Revenue Minister Anandi Patel said during discussion on Budgetary provisions of her department.
She said the State Disaster Management Authority has been earmarked Rs 115 crore for undertaking relief works in case of natural calamities.
Patel said a sum of Rs 22 crore has been set aside for administrative works in new new districts and talukas.
On January 26, the Government had given in-principle approval for creation of seven new districts and 22 talukas.
Patel further said another Rs 77.69 crore has been earmarked for starting an online system, where in all district collectorates will be inter-connected. The system will help citizens to avail land records and other services.
