The wholesale gur (jaggery) market witnessed a sharp rise of Rs 100 per quintal in its prices in the national capital today following speculative buying by stockists amid pick up in demand from retailers amidst tight supplies from manufacturing belts.
Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also showed a similar trend and prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal.
Marketmen said increased buying by stockists and retailers along with negligible arrivals from manufacturing belts mainly pushed up gur prices.
A rally in sugar prices, which soared to three-year highs, too supported the upside in gur prices, they added.
