Guv gives consent to WB Clinical Establishments Bill 2017

Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi has approved the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill, 2017 which was passed by the state assembly earlier this month.
"The Governor has signed the Bill and tomorrow we will announce the 11-member Commission," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said.
The state government would announce the 11-member West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission which will monitor the billing and performance of the private hospitals and nursing homes in the state.
The Commission will be comprise of a former chief justice, health experts, principal secretary of the Health Department and representatives of hospitals and patients, who are the consumers.
The Bill, aimed at ensuring transparency in functioning and activities of private clinical establishments, was passed in the state assembly on March 3.
Besides monitoring the activities of private hospitals and nursing homes, the bill, also has the provision of imposing penalty on medical facilities in case of violation.
Meanwhile, the Health department, under the instruction of Banerjee, today formed a three-member panel to probe into the death of Sunil Pandey at a private hospital here in the city.
The committee will be comprised of Calcutta Medical College Cardiology department head Plavan Mukhopadhyay, Orthopaedic head of SSKM Kishore Paul and another SSKM doctor Soumitra Ghosh.
Talking about the committee probing into the death of Sanjoy Roy's death allegedly because of medical negligence at a private hospital, Banerje, said, "The committee's final report has been submitted to the police and they will look into it.
