Hailakandi DC suspends hosp administrator, 2 others for

Following administering of expired saline to a 12-year-old boy by some staff of the government-run S K Roy Civil Hospital, Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora has placed under immediate suspension hospital administrator Bhaskar Das and three others, an official release said today.
Nurse Shanta Sharma Roy, pharmacist and store in-charge Fakaruddin Laskar and matron-in-charge Kamala Purkayastha were placed under suspension for administering the expired saline, the release said.
Bora also asked the Health and Family Welfare Department to initiate proper action against Hospital Superintendent Dr Subendhu Chakraborty for allegedly remaining absent from duty unauthorisedly and leaving station without permission in contravention of circular instructions.

The Deputy Commissioner had also instituted an inquiry headed by Circle Officer and Executive Magistrate Sarfaraz Haque and investigations revealed that some employees in the hospital had shown gross negligence by storing a number of medicines that have crossed expiry dates.
Bora has also directed district Additional Deputy Commissioner, Health, to make a thorough probe into the incident vis-a-vis as to how expiry dated medicines had found their way into the store of the hospital and to submit a report to him latest by October 20.
The attendants of the patient found out to their utter dismay that the saline injected into the boy had crossed the expiry date in September 2016 leading to unrest in the hospital, it said.
