Opposing Haryana government's proposal to bring in private fleet to ferry passengers, employees of the state roadways service today said they will hold road blockades if tenders are floated to invite private operators.
"The government is bringing private operators, drivers and technical staff. We are against it. The day it opens tender inviting private transporters, we will hold a chakka jam and no bus will be permitted to operate," state transport association president Dharamvir Hooda said.
He said the government was bent upon introducing private buses at the cost of the state run transport service.
On November 19, while announcing the state's new transport policy, Transport Minister Krishan Lal Pawar had said the government will hire buses from private operators to provide efficient and economical services to passengers.
There are around 4,100 state-run buses operating in Haryana from 24 depots.
