The ultra, identified as Satya Mandingi, alias Malla (25), was apprehended during a joint combing operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the police in Narayanpatna area, they said.
Malla was a member of Laxmipur Area Committee under the Srikakulam-Koraput divisional committee of Maoists, they said.
One claymore mine, some detonators, electric wire and battery were recovered from the Maoist whose involvement is suspected in several killings including that of a BSF constable in the area, they said.
His involvement in several other crimes was also suspected, sources said.
