Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary today took charge as Minister of State for Coal, with his senior colleague in the ministry Piyush Goyal saying that his support would help taking on "newer challenges".
"First of all, I want to thank our Prime Minister (Narendra Modi)... (and) Piyush Goyal, and we know each other for years and we will work together to take this ministry ahead," Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary, who is also holding the portfolio of the Minister of State for Mines, said he will work with full dedication.
"I along with Piyush Goyal will do good work," he said. Goyal, who has been promoted as the Cabinet minister for coal and railways ministries, welcomed the new MoS in the coal ministry.
"I heartily welcome Haribhai...I am delighted to have him as a colleague in the ministry. Where earlier in the three- and-a-half years, I did not have any support, now with him I will be able to take newer challenges," Goyal said.
The government, he said, wants to take up very quickly important issues like wage settlement with Coal India unions.
"So, I am delighted to have an able colleague like Haribhai working with me. Together, we will continue to steer the coal ministry to meet new challenges," Goyal said.
