Haryana CM holds meeting to discuss flood preparedness

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today convened a meeting to discuss flood control measures and assess implementation of rain water harvesting in the state.
Khattar presided over the 47th meeting of Haryana State Flood Control Board here, an official spokesperson said.
All Deputy Commissioners (DCs) attended the meeting through video conferencing, the spokesperson added.
"The board approved 107 new schemes worth Rs 129 crore for strengthening the flood control system in the state, besides sanctioning Rs 256 crore for 140 ongoing schemes," the official said, adding that the schemes would be completed before the onset of monsoon.
Regarding delay in project works, Khattar noted that earlier the meetings used to be held in March and sometimes as late as May, as a result of which most of the flood control schemes remain uncompleted.

"Now, we would not just ensure the timely completion of flood control measures, but also the quality of work," Khattar asserted.

Meanwhile, talking about the monitoring committee, the CM said that a 3-member committee would be constituted to monitor various flood control measures on a day-to-day basis.
It would also review the progress of flood control works and that it would be videographed to ensure transparency.
While directing the Deputy Commissioners to take up the works on priority basis, Khattaer said he would convene a meeting of all DCs preferably in the first week of June to see for himself, the status of work approved in their respective districts.

In case of non-completion of work by then, the concerned Deputy Commissioner has to provide a valid reason for the same, he added.
The chief minister also stressed the need for better utilisation of water.
Noting that a few areas usually get submerged during monsoon season, Khattar directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for such chronic areas.
Taking a serious view of complaints regarding power cuts on lift irrigation projects in district Jhajjar and Rewari, he directed the DCs of both the districts to ensure uninterrupted power supply on these projects.

Meanwhile, Khattar said that to ensure safety of women, women's police stations would be set up at sub-divisional level on the pattern of those already established at district level, after completion of police recruitments.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a public meeting at Kalayat in Kaithal, official release said.
Accepting a long-pending demand of the people of the area, he also announced to make Shri Kapil Muni Mahila College a government college.
He also announced construction of a mini secretariat in Kalayat sub-division and rest house of Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department.
Apart from this, a stadium would be constructed over an area of six acres and a general hospital would also be established.
He also announced that all pilgrimage sites in district Kaithal, including Kapil Muni Tirath in Kalayat, would be restored by the Kurukshetra Development Board.
