Haryana govt forms committee to repeal obsolete laws

Haryana government today said that it has constituted a five-member statute review committee to give recommendations on reviewing and repealing obsolete laws in the state.
"A five-member statute review committee headed by Justice (Retd.) Iqbal Singh, Commissioner Gurudwara Commission, to make an inquiry and give its findings and recommendations with respect to review and repeal obsolete laws," said an official spokesman here.
Other members of the committee includes retired IA officers S P Gupta and Surjit Singh. Rajeev Dudeja, will be Member Secretary.
With term of the committee being one year, he said the committee would identify laws which are no longer needed or relevant and can be immediately repealed.

The committee will identify laws which are not in harmony with the existing climate of economic liberalization and need change, also the laws which otherwise require changes or amendments and to make suggestions for their amendment, he said.
It would also consider the suggestions for revision or amendment in laws given by expert groups, if any, constituted in various departments with a view to coordinating and harmonizing them.

References made by Ministries or Departments in respect of legislation having bearing on the working of more than one department will also be considered.
He said the committee would revise the State Acts of general importance so as to simplify them and to remove any anomalies, ambiguities and inequities and consider and convey to the Government its views on any subject relating to law that may be specifically referred to it by the Government.

He said a notification issued to this effect states that some laws have become obsolete or redundant and are no longer needed or relevant and can be immediately repealed.
