The Haryana government is planning to construct a 200-kms-long Bawana-Yamunanagar Expressway along the Western Yamuna Canal at a cost of Rs 1000 crore with the state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar directing the authorities to carry out a survey of the proposed road.
The direction was issued today when the CM was presiding over a meeting of Public Works Department here, an official spokesman said.
The project will decongest traffic on NH-1 at Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal and Yamuna Nagar as it pass through these places.
"Out of the 200 kms, 160 kms falls in the NCR area and rest falls in Yamuna Nagar district," he said.
The construction of highway will cost about Rs 1000 crore. While the state government will spend Rs 150 crore, the remaining amount will be borne by National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
"It would have four Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) and 10 flyovers," the spokesman said adding that it will have 10 meter service road.
Khattar said that he would also take up the Rai Malikpur (Rajasthan Border)-Narnaul-Mahendergarh-Dadri- Bhiwani-Kharak corridor with the Union Road Transport and Highways ministry for declaring it as National Highway.
