Till last week, as many as 322 dengue cases, 6,695 cases of malaria and nine cases of chikungunya were reported in Haryana this season.
Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma today said he has directed all schools, including private institutes, to make students aware about the spread of these diseases and the preventive measures against them.
It is mandatory to organise speeches or lectures to make the students aware, especially during the morning assemblies, for at least one week, he said.
Concrete efforts are being made by the state government to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunia. School students can play a significant role in spreading awareness, he said.
Lectures on these diseases should be delivered in the morning assembly and various awareness programmes, including seminars, debates, slogan writing and paining competitions etc, held by the schools involving students, he said.
Besides, science teachers should conduct demonstrations in consultation with the Health Department, he said.
The District Education Officers have been directed to conduct surprise checks in schools to see if such exercises are being carried, Sharma added.
