Mukherjee, who authored, "Ami Mujib Bolchhi", a book on Hasina's father and independence architect of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died in Kolkata this morning.
In a condolence message, Hasina described Mukherjee as a "true friend" of Bangladesh and said he used to love very much the people of this country.
"He was also an ardent follower of Bangabandhu and his books on Bangladesh's Liberation War and "Ami Mujib Bolchhi" enriched Bangladesh's literature and history," Hasina said.
